Final Fantasy XIV on the Playstation Network

News of the upcoming mmorpg to hit the Playstation 3, Final Fantasy XIV, has been buzzing around for quite a while now. It's the second attempt at an mmorpg on a console, from Square Enix, since FFXI. What the full set of features are for FFXIV are isn't known yet, but there are a couple of details as to what you can expect to be doing over the Playstation Network.

For one, Square Enix made it known that they are going to try and offer cross console and cross communication between consoles. So you'll be able to party with and interact with players on the PC, if you're playing on the Playstation 3, and vice versa. That's an essential feature, I think, because it allows you to bring two communities together. I know that I will personally be playing over the Playstation 3, while my friends don't have one and they may play over the PC instead. It's a nifty feature that many multiplayer games should make use of.

Final Fantasy XIV will also be featuring classes from the original game, but renamed. The human race will be called Hyuran, the Taru is called Lalafell, the Mithra is called Miqo'te, and the Galka is called Roegadyn. Then there are two subclasses for each, being the swordsmen, archer, enchanter, warlock, blacksmith, cook, gardener and fisherman. There are some odd sounding classes in this game, but it seems cool. It seems as if some of the classes are solely tailored towards making money and pushing the in-game economy, which is a cool feature. I know of a couple of mmorpg's that manage to do that task well, having in-game billionaires.

Final Fantasy XIV is set for a 2010 release on the Playstation 3 and PC. You will most likely have to pay a monthly subscription for it again, so if you need a way of getting Playstation Network funds for free, you should check my first post out.
